Everything Metrology Institute does is grounded in a clear mission and a long-term vision — to secure measurement science its rightful place as a foundational STEM discipline and build the workforce America’s precision industries depend on.
Measurement is the foundation of modern industry, scientific research, public safety, and commerce. Yet despite its central role in nearly every technical discipline, metrology remains underrepresented in formal education and largely invisible to the public.
Metrology Institute was established to change that. Our mission is to strengthen the connections between education, industry, and professional practice — ensuring that the people who build, calibrate, and maintain measurement systems have the training, credentials, and community they need to do their work with confidence and precision.
We pursue that mission through five strategic commitments:
Collaborating with metrology experts and industry leaders to develop curriculum that reflects real calibration laboratory standards and current measurement practices.
Assisting K–12 schools, community colleges, trade schools, and universities with training materials, curriculum frameworks, and resources that bring measurement science into the classroom.
Distributing technical documents and public resources that highlight metrology’s essential role in product safety, scientific integrity, commerce, and public health.
Maintaining educational resources grounded in ISO/IEC 17025:2017, NIST GUM, and VIM — ensuring training is rigorous, portable, and aligned with recognized international standards.
Supporting research into the applications of artificial intelligence in measurement science education — exploring how emerging tools can expand access, improve outcomes, and advance the field.
